Amazon confirmed 16,000 corporate job cuts as part of an efficiency drive that Reuters tied directly to the company's rising AI adoption.
The latest cuts mark the second major round of layoffs in three months after Amazon pared 14,000 jobs in October, saying at the time that artificial intelligence and concerns over shifting corporate culture were to blame.
Reuters also reported Andy Jassy had said rising use of AI tools would mean more automation of duties and corporate job losses.
Amazon cut about 14,000 corporate jobs after explicitly saying generative AI and agents would shrink parts of its white-collar workforce.
While this will include reducing in some areas and hiring in others, it will mean an overall reduction in our corporate workforce of approximately 14,000 roles... This generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet.
